At Equipoise Integral Counseling LLC, I provide somatic cues to address your physical experience—including sensations from within your body—alongside your thoughts, emotions, energy, and desires. My approach includes somatic therapy and creative support tailored for neurodivergent individuals. Exploring areas of your life that have been mostly unconscious or on auto-pilot can feel vulnerable, but it is an essential step in trauma-informed healing.
While it is crucial and healing to acknowledge and grieve what we experienced as children when we were not in control of our lives, as adults, the invitation is to take responsibility for how we may continue dysfunctional behavior in our body, energy, and mind. This is especially important for those seeking chronic illness support or navigating the complexities of being neurodivergent. In order to thrive, we must ultimately be willing to shed the too small, disempowering, and restrictive definition of ourselves as victims, and rise from the ashes of our suffering like a phoenix, often through practices like somatic therapy and creative support that are trauma informed.
Being uncomfortable is not synonymous with being unsafe. Growth can be challenging, often necessitating us to extend beyond our comfort zones. At Equipoise Integral Counseling LLC, I see my role as providing chronic illness support and helping clients, including those who are neurodivergent, navigate these challenges and grow beyond their perceived limitations. I tend to communicate directly, while also incorporating creative support and a warm, trauma-informed approach. However, I understand that not everyone is comfortable with that, especially when exploring somatic therapy.
Long-term daily substance use can significantly alter our ability to be present and experience life with greater clarity. I understand that for some, especially those navigating chronic illness, this may be a necessary coping mechanism for survival. If substance use is at the center of your coping strategies, I recommend exploring local substance use programs that may offer creative support. Occasionally, I work with clients in active substance use if they are seeing another provider who is assisting them through a trauma-informed approach. I assess each situation on an individual basis, considering the unique needs of neurodivergent individuals and the potential benefits of somatic therapy.
Insight is valuable, but it is not enough to effect change, especially for those seeking chronic illness support. Our brains learn through interval repetition, and at Equipoise Integral Counseling LLC, we recognize that to truly change, we need to practice new skills. This practice is particularly important for neurodivergent individuals, as we incorporate creative support and somatic therapy into our approach, ensuring it is trauma informed.
Change is reinforced by consistency. To grow, especially for those seeking chronic illness support or navigating life as neurodivergent individuals, you have to show up and change outworn habits. Clients who utilize the tools and resources I share, including creative support and somatic therapy techniques, notice almost immediate positive shifts in their mood and capacity to handle life and relationships, all within a trauma-informed framework.
