Philosophy and Approach:

My experience confirms that no matter the trauma, each of us possesses innate wisdom, yearning to lead our lives towards greater freedom, connection, and well-being. While we may not control many aspects of life, we can liberate ourselves from behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that perpetuate unfulfilling patterns. Strategies that kept us safe in childhood may hinder us as adults. It is essential to live in your body and express who you truly are. That's what somatic therapy helps build.

As a queer, bicultural first-generation Italian-American with a chronic illness, I approach counseling with an open, curiosity-driven mindset. I respect your life experiences as they intersect with your circumstances and the sociopolitical systems that affect them, providing a space for professional disclosure. I maintain a non-punitive harm reduction view of addictive behaviors, ensuring a supportive environment.

Understanding that your body serves as a gateway to resolving trauma and integrating emotions, I utilize trauma-informed counseling and mindfulness-based somatic therapy interventions. When appropriate, we may incorporate movement and physical activity to enhance awareness, help you regulate intense feelings, and address trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, or depression.

You can expect deep listening from me as I challenge you to expand beyond your perceived limitations. I employ a psychodynamic orientation, meaning we will use the therapeutic relationship itself to explore your patterns. My approach may include IFS (Internal Family Systems), ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior/Cognitive Therapy), Gestalt, Somatic, and existentially oriented interventions.

As a long-time student of Eastern wisdom traditions, my work is informed by Buddhist psychology, Taoism, and Qigong—a Chinese mindful movement healing practice that supports health and well-being. I have also studied spirituality in counseling, Christian mysticism, and Kabbalah, and I draw on my meditation experience to enrich my life and work.

Before becoming a counselor, I was a professional ballet dancer, performer, radio host, and writer. After retiring from the stage, I dedicated 25 years as a movement therapist and Certified Pilates teacher for individuals with chronic pain, injuries, and neurological disabilities. I am fluent in Italian and French and embrace an LGBTQA+, body-positive, and sex and kink-positive philosophy.

Formal Education and Training:

I hold a Master of Science degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Portland State University, where my coursework emphasized key areas such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Medical Aspects of Disability, and Multicultural Perspectives. I gained expertise in trauma-informed counseling and person-based treatment modalities, including somatic therapy and Spiritual Counseling. Additionally, my studies covered Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Legal and Ethical Issues, Foundations of Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling, Sexuality, Psychopharmacology and Addictions, Social Security Disability Law, Career and Lifestyle Planning, Occupational/Vocational Analysis, and Group Counseling, which are all essential for professional disclosure in the field.

Countinuing Education, Confidentiality, & Ethics

As a licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT), I adhere to its Code of Ethics and provide a professional disclosure to my clients. To maintain my license, I am required to engage in continuing education through online and in-person courses relevant to my field, totaling 40 clock hours every 24-month period, which includes essential topics such as ethics, cultural competency, and suicide risk assessment, as well as techniques utilized in somatic therapy and trauma-informed counseling.

Confidentiality: I strictly follow OBLPCT ethical standards of confidentiality. I will never disclose the contents of our interactions or your identity unless required by a court of law, or when there is a significant risk to yourself or others. To ensure that you receive the best care, I often seek supervision with other professionals. While supervision may include references to your process, your identity will remain confidential. We will discuss the details of your rights to confidentiality during our initial session.
